While I Wait; Walking By Faith, Not Sight

Everyone says, “Wait on the Lord. He will make a way when there seems to be no way.” Or, “At the end of the tunnel, there’s light.” But all you can think about is what to do while waiting. How do you handle the present?

Still, waiting isn’t a delay. It’s preparation. Preparation for what God is about to unlock and release from within you. They say the climb is difficult, but the view is breathtaking. Yet, making that first step is the scariest and hardest part. If we don’t take it, we remain stuck. And I can attest to that wholeheartedly. Fear can cripple and keep us in a place of despair and defeat, like we’re trapped in survival mode.

But God calls us to take a massive leap of faith. Active faith. The kind that breaks chains of fear and doubt. Waiting can be hard, but it is always worth it. What we do while we wait shapes our mindset. It determines whether we stay expectant, prayerful, and joyful even in the face of crisis.

Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.”

Stories That Speak to Our Souls

Growing up in Sunday School, we’d hear these different stories. Sometimes we acted them out in plays, which was exciting. These stories were full of tragedy, mystery, and unexplainable miracles. From Adam and Eve in the garden, to Cain who killed his brother, to Peter walking on water, and Saul who became Paul. There’s a stream of narratives that reveal God’s goodness and sovereignty.

But when you hear a story that mirrors your situation, it hits differently. It’s as if the Holy Spirit placed it in Scripture just for you.

Faith Lessons from the Woman with the Issue of Blood

Her story appears in three of the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, and Luke. And truthfully, it impacted my faith in a way I never expected. As a child, all I caught was that she had suffered for twelve years. She went to countless physicians, spent all she had, and her condition only worsened. She was isolated. From her family, from society.

But by faith, she believed Jesus could heal her. If she could just touch the hem of His garment, she knew she would be made well. And she was.

Jesus immediately knew that virtue had left Him. But it was her deep, unwavering belief that made her whole. I remember thinking to myself, “What’s wrong with me?” I even joked with a friend once, saying, “Lord, I’ve been touching you and nothing!” We laughed, but deep down, I was restless and discouraged.

Hunger That Awakens Faith

Her story showed me that a heart hungry for God pushes past self-pity and complacency. That revelation challenged me. The Holy Spirit has been nudging me daily to walk out my faith boldly. He told me I have to be the change I want to see. Walk even when it hurts. Walk even when I don’t understand.

It’s a daily struggle, but we’re not alone. God walks with us. It’s when we become truly hungry, spiritually alert, and deeply aware of our need for Him that our faith stretches, our thirst increases, and breakthrough begins.
